As national holidays such as Flag Day and Independence Day jump start this summer season, are most people really more concerned about their shopping list for the family barbecue than the birth of a nation? Especially children whom often find history boring or think of it vaguely as dusty facts in a school book.

To wake children to the excitement of history and instill a joy of learning and understanding of our country’s history, acclaimed children’s author J. Scott Fuqua recently released Calvert the Raven in the Battle of Baltimore.

What: You’re invited to book-signing and discussion with J. Scott Fuqua — includes a free storytelling session for children.

Would you believe: A passionate youth advocate, acclaimed Baltimore author J. Scott Fuqua struggled with dyslexia throughout his school years. Fugua was scared of books because he was told he’d never be a good student. Today he’s the recipient of three Maryland State Arts Council writing awards and the author of several nationally acclaimed young adult and children’s novels.
